William Mulholland

LOS ANGELES ENGINEER

Having emigrated to the United States, William Mulholland worked as a ditch-cleaner for a water supply company and some eight years later, was appointed superintendent of the Department of Water and Power, Los Angeles. Together with Fred Eton, a one time Los Angeles mayor, Mulholland created one of the engineering marvels of the age - the Los Angeles Aqueduct. The renowned Mulholland Drive is named in his memory.
