William Lamport

ZORRO OF WEXFORD

The colourful William Lamport was a first class swordsman who, due to a personal scandal, was forced to flee to Mexico where he developed empathy for the poor slaves in that country. Living amongst them, he established a rebellion amongst the slaves who disseminated the legend of the El Zorro (‘the night-time fox’). The legendary Hollywood film, ‘The Mask of Zorro’ is allegedly based on his adventures.
