William Frederick McFadzean (VC)

VICTORIA CROSS RECIPIENT

William Frederick McFadzean served in the British Army during World War I and is best known for the heroic feat which saw him propel himself on top of a box of grenades in a bid to prevent harm to his comrades. The grenades exploded and he was killed instantly, but in the process, prevented injury to all but one soldier. For this brave deed he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
