Having completed his education in Ireland, William Ferguson Massey emigrated to New Zealand where his previous involvement in Freemasonry and the Orange Order proved influential in the success of his political career. In 1909, he established the Reform Party which attained considerable success in the New Zealand elections of 1911 and Massey was sworn in as prime minister of New Zealand on July 10th, 1912.
