William "Bill" Riley

BI-PLANE FIGHTER ACE

William “Bill” Riley joined the Royal Air Force on a short service commission in 1935 but soon graduated to the role of pilot officer. A Spitfire fighter pilot with 610 Squadron, Riley later transferred to the Polish Squadron 302 as a flight commander. Later awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Leitrim born pilot was killed as his squadron took off from an Egyptian airbase on July 16th, 1942.
