Whilst representing Great Britain and Ireland at the London Olympics in 1908, Timothy Joseph Ahearne successfully won the gold medal with his final jump and until Lynn Davies won the long jump event fifty six years later, he was the only man representing Great Britain and Ireland to take gold in a field event.
