NATIONALIST

Having endeavoured to take part in the Easter Rising of 1916, Thomas Kent engaged in conflict when the Royal Irish Constabulary was sent to arrest all republican sympathisers throughout the country. Upon its arrival at the Kent residence in County Cork, the RIC encountered stout resistance from Thomas and his three brothers, Richard, David and William; and following a gunfight that lasted for four hours, during which an RIC officer was killed, the Kent’s were forced to surrender. Thomas was sentenced to death and executed by firing squad in Cork on May 9th, 1916.
