Thomas Colonel Blood

ADVENTURER

Being a wanted man, Thomas Colonel Blood fled England to the Netherlands but brazenly returned a decade later, practicing as a doctor despite his status. He also became friendly with the keeper of the Crown Jewels, Talbot Edwards, and later aided by two companions, stole the priceless paraphernalia. Blood was arrested but asked to be taken before the king, where he reckoned that his considerable charms would save him. It did and the wily Irish man was subsequently awarded Irish lands worth £500 per annum.
