Peter Maher

In 1888 Peter Maher became middleweight champion of Ireland and two years later, heavyweight champion, following which he travelled to the United States where he had a long and successful career. In 1895 he defeated Steve O’Donnell to capture the world heavyweight title but lost it the following year to the great Bob Fitzsimmons.
