Oliver Goldsmith

WRITER, POET & PHYSICIAN

Oliver Goldsmith had a considerable output as a hack writer for publishers in London and is best known for his novel ‘The Vicar of Wakefield’ (1766) as well as his plays ‘The Good Natured Man’ (1768) and ‘She Stoops to Conquer’ (1771). He also is generally believed to have also written ‘The History of Little Goody Two Shoes’ (1765). A statue to his memory stands in the centre of Ballymahon, County Longford.
