James McCombs

NEW ZEALAND POLITICIAN

Having emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1876, James McCombs later commenced a political career with his involvement in the Progressive Liberal Association and was later appointed an MP for the Social Democratic Party. Elected the first President of the newly founded Labour Party, in 1916, McCombs represented Lyttelton in the New Zealand Parliament from 1913 until 1933.
