5TH PM OF NORTHERN IRELAND

James Chichester-Clark served in the Irish Guards and saw action at the Anzio landings during World War II. In 1960 he was elected for South Derry in the Northern Ireland parliament and was appointed government chief whip under Terence O’Neill. He later he became leader of the Ulster Unionist Party and prime minister of Northern Ireland, however, due to the forced disbandment of the Ulster Special Constabulary, Clark’s tenure was punctuated by civil unrest.
