FIELD MARSHALL (1st Earl Kitchener)

Famous for the World War I recruitment poster that bore his image, Ballylongford born Horatio Kitchener gained infamy during the Second Boer War for the scorched earth policy and the creation of the first ever concentration camps. The distinctive poster bearing his image appeared in recruitment campaigns for the war accompanied by the caption “your country needs you”. He died on the sinking of the HMS Hampshire on June 5th, 1916.
