Gerry Ryan

Gerry Ryan

Having initially become an apprentice solicitor with legal firm Malone and Potter, Gerry Ryan got involved with pirate radio station Big D before getting his big break with Radio 2 in 1979. He later switched to his morning show where, with his outspoken and at times controversial opinions, he established a listening audience of over 500,000 people. His sad death resounded around the world, with news of the great presenter’s demise reaching countries as far afield as the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Ryan, who also led a distinguished television career, was laid to rest on May 6th, 2010, with tributes paid to him by President of Ireland Mary McAleese and Taoiseach Brian Cowen.
