Francis Bacon

PAINTER

As an artist, Francis Bacon is best known for the contorted human forms depicted in his works and he created a sensation in 1945 when he exhibited his ‘Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion’ in the Tate Gallery, London. A technical perfectionist, he destroyed a great deal of his own work but even so, some of those works that remain have been valued at over €16 million.
