Ernest Blythe

IRISH POLITICIAN

Ernest Blythe was a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and later enlisted in the Irish Volunteer Movement which lead to his imprisonment on multiple occasions. In 1918 he was elected to the Dáil and he later served under W.T. Cosgrave as minister for finance. Blythe retired from politics in 1936, and devoted his time thereafter to the revival of the Irish language.
