Edmund Ignatius Rice had a successful career in business but following a tragic accident in which his wife was killed and his daughter was left disabled, he devoted his life to the education and service of the poor. The founder of two religious orders, the Congregation of Christian Brothers and the Presentation Brothers, he was beatified in October, 1996.
