IRISH NATIONALIST

A founder member of the Irish Volunteers as well as one of the signatories of the Proclamation of the Republic, Éamonn Ceannt took part in the Easter Rising as commandant of the 4th Battalion of the Volunteers at the South Dublin Union where his unit saw intense fighting before being forced to surrender. He was executed at the age of thirty-four on May 8th, 1916.
