Brian Keenan

IRISH REPUBLICAN

Once dubbed ‘the single biggest threat’ to British rule in Northern Ireland, Brian Keenan was arrested in March, 1979, and stood trial at the Old Bailey, London, in June 1980, accused of organising the IRA’s bombing campaign in England. Following a sentence of eighteen years in prison, it was Keenan’s remarkable turn from a militant to a peace strategist that played a key role in the peace process, acting as the IRA’s liaison with the Independent International Commission on De-Commissioning.
